Lake Almanor
Lake Almanor Fishing Reports Provided by Doug Neal, of " Almanor Fishing Adventures"
Surface temp.@70 degrrees
Water clarity : Good to 12 ft.
The East half of Almanor is the place to be right now, water clarity is good to almost 12 ft.Compared to the west side which is a mess right now with floating grass, murkey water, and a warmer surface temp. The bait fish, pond Smelt, are everywhere from the Dam to Prattville and north to Big Springs and along the pennisula. Giant clouds of smelt are on the move as feeding fish push them all over the place.
Rec. 1 : Nice Rainbows all around 3 lbs. about 400 yards out in front of Rec.#1, about 51 ft. of water. Troll 1/4 oz. RGSS or silver and blue Humdingers. 6 ft. off the bottom @ 2.9 mph.
Bait fish in front of the Osprey nest for Browns that are active from fisrt light till 11:00 am. Try mealworms/cricket, crawlers,Salmon eggs. find out what they want and make the switch!
Hamilton Branch:Bait Fishing just outside the mouth has been the hot spot. Several reports of Rainbows limits, fast and early.
Take all the usual stuff, crickets, mealworms, crawlers and even power bait..
East Shore:Trolling Lake Cove is still productive, but the fish are on the small side 16 to 19 inches.
Try any of the following lures, 1/4 oz. RGSS, Silver Humdingers or A gold Z-Ray W/red dots.. Run these 4 to 8 ft. off the bottom 2.8 to 2.9 mph. We fished about 600 yds out in 48 to 55 ft. of water, however there were several boats working in closer. Add to the lures or bait some Pro-Cure Trophy Trout and Garlic scents blended together.
Spar Bouy: One day its hot, and the next day it not!, mostly Browns. crickets and mealworms,or double crickets off the bottom. This bite can go off early. I had 18 hits there in 5 hrs. and put 9 in the box, best fish was 4.8 lbs.
If theres fish rolling on top, try white or yellow jigs when the sun hits the water and into the afternoon can produce some solid strikes.
Theres not as much bait fish moving in and out of there this past couple of days, if its slow, you better go..
Big Springs:Big Springs Its still your best bet for the Salmon. Premium Anchovy tails with Pro-Cures Krill Scent, or Smelly Jellys Koknaee Feast 3 to 5 cranks off the bottom. Crawlers are good to have down there too. The trolling bite has been good as well, most all our hits came on Berkley 2" Power minnows in smelt. 14" behind a Seps 04 Silver Prsim Dodger. 30ft. down.
Rec.2 Try Jigging white or yellow jigs, we managed a couple of fish there the past week, Browns to 3.0 lbs, and some smaller. Fish are packed in there right now, but so are the Smelt, so theres lots on food.. Bait fish off the bottom, or Jig.
Our best fish went for a threaded crawler with Pro-Cure Trpphy Trout super gel and Balls o Fire Salmon eggs, three cranks off the bottom.
T
his weeks fishing tip: If You like trolling deep, start looking into lures and dodgers that feature ultra violet thin film. Fish can see light in that spectrum and are attrached to the flash..... Try UV scents by Pro-Cure on your own lures.....Go UV it works!

Lake Britten
Lake Britten is still full that's the good news. Crappie & bass fishing has slowed down some , Check with Vauhn's sporting goods in Burney to see what there hitting on this week
Lake Shastina
The water is real low , you will not get a boat in. Bank fishing for bass, crappie & catfish is fair in the evening.
Lake Siskiyou
The lake is hold it's own on water level, Plenty of stocked rainbows being caught in the 12 to 14 " range. Think gold lures with a good shine . Booktrout are still hitting Bluefox lures where wagon creek dumps into the lake. The Browns are down and holding tight. With the full moon I am sure there feeding all night. The small mouth bass fisherman are killing them, just about any rocky point or brush pile will give you a fish.
McCloud Reservoir
The lake is dropping fast, Feeding Shasta Lake with water. The Rainbows are hitting crickets on 6lb test, where the McCloud river dumps into the lake. Top line is only producing fish at day light and 1/2 hour before dark. Fish are ranging between 12" to a couple pounds. The Browns are holding tight to the bottom , and it's a little hard to get them to play . The few being hooked are in the 2 and 3 lb range. Stick baits have been the best bet and some spoons lime and green.
Southern Oregon Area Lakes
AREA LAKES. Both Whitaker and Bradbury said that with the warm weather, the fish in area lakes were getting wormy but still are being caught.
Applegate Lake and Lost Creek still are producing smallmouth bass, Whitaker said and suggested Senkos to help bring them in.
Whitaker added that plenty of big fish were still being caught in Diamond Lake.

Shasta Lake Landlocked Salmon and Trout - Shasta Lake salmon and trout fishing has slowed with the low water and onslaught of wakeboarders and alcohol fueled power boats. The constant agitation of the water has washed in clay from the banks, seriously degrading water clarity. We are still picking up trout and salmon, but it's not the gimmee that it was for the last 8 weeks. Post Labor Day, the lake will calm down and the salmon and trout fishing should return to normal. The lake has stratified and the the salmon and larger trout have moved into deeper water. Seps #3 and #4 watermelon or glow dodgers followed by Seps Secret lures or slow rolled shad are producing fish. Small planter trout are scattered along the surface while larger hold over trout and king salmon are holding 80 - 120 feet deep. Take advantage of our summer specials and fish Shasta's prolific fishery at a price that will make you forget about gas prices.
Current Shasta Conditions - The lake is at 128 ft. below full pool and dropping. The main Centimudi launch ramp is closed and the dock is out of the water. We are launching off of the low water launch on the island next to the ramp. Dirt road to paved launch ramp, but no dock available. New islands and structures are appearing every day, so keep a sharp eye on the water especially if you are running a prop. Antlers and Bailey Cove launch ramps are closed. There is limited access at all of the ramps. Thank you to Bill Divens for this report.

Water clarity : Excellent: to 15 ft.
Fishing pressure has been light during the week and gets heaveier during the weekends. The bait fish, pond Smelt, are everywhere in Lake Almanor right now. Giant clouds of smelt are on the move as feeding fish push them all over the place.
Rec. 1 : Very good right now! Pond Smelt are are just outside the log boom in front of the ospry nest. Browns are activtly feed from fisrt light till 11:00 am, and possibly longer if the boat traffic dosent shut down the bite.
Prattville: There were lots of fish between Prattville and Rec area 2. but the smelt are moving, and the fish are moving with them. If you find them let me know.
East Shore: Trolling Lake Cove is still productive, but the fish are on the small side 16 to 19 inches.
Try any of the following lures, 1/4 oz. RGSS, Silver Humdingers or A gold Cripple lure.
The Dorado hole on the East shore has been giving up some fish to Crickets up off the bottom.
Spar Bouy: Good Action, mostly Browns, we had limits before 10:00 am yesterday. Best fish was a Brown @ 4.9 lbs that took a Large threaded crawler with Pro-Cure Trophy Trout gel. Crickets and mealworms,or double crickets off the bottom. This bite can go off early but, after 7:15 am when the sun hits the water it can really go off. Several bigger Browns from 4 to 7+ lbs have come out of this area the past month.
White or yellow jigs when the sun hits the water and into the afternoon can produce some solid strikes too.
Theres tons of bait fish moving in and out and there can be delays between bites, but if you stick it out it can really pay off.
The only negative are all the Skiers and Wakeboard boats in the late morning and early afternoon, but you should be done by then any way., the bite is that good!
Big Springs Big Springs Its still your best bet for the Salmon. Premium Anchovy tails with Pro-Cures Krill Scent, or Smelly Jellys Koknaee Feast 4 to 8 cranks off the bottom. Crawlers are good to have down there too. Expect some Browns to be in there as well. Reports have been a mix of Browns and Rainbows, with a occasional Salmon.
Rec.2 Hot and Cold, we managed a couple of fish there the past week, Rainbows to 3.9 lbs, and some smaller browns about 18 inches.Fish are packed in there right now, but so are the Smelt, so theres lots on food.. Bait fish off the bottom, or Jig. Our best fish went for Balls o Fire Salmon eggs, three cranks off the bottom.
This weeks fishing tip: If you use Downriggers, get a stacker clip and learn to use it above ball flashers in deep water.

Shasta Lake
Shasta Lake Landlocked Salmon and Trout 9 Aug 2008 -Shasta Lake continues to pump out quality trout and salmon. Dry Creek cove, our favorite landlocked salmon spot is open again. We are catching lots of landlocked King Salmon and rainbow trout to 22". Average day with 4 downriggers in the water is 20 – 25 downrigger releases, 14 – 20 solid hook ups and 7-16 to the boat. Average size fish is 15” – 18”. The lake has stratified and the salmon and larger trout have moved into deeper water. Seps #3 and #4 Gold Starlite, UV Fruit Salad or glow dodgers followed by Seps Secret lures or slow rolled shad are producing fish. Small planter trout are scattered along the surface while larger hold over trout and king salmon are holding 80 - 120 feet deep.
Current Shasta Conditions - The lake is dropping fast and will continue to draining quickly until Reclamation drops the river flows in Sept and Oct. The Centimudi launch ramp is just above the falling water line, and the dock will probably be removed next week. We will soon be launching off of the low water launch on the island. New islands and structures are appearing every day, so keep a sharp eye on the water especially if you are running a prop. There is limited access at all of the ramps. www.salmonkinglodge.com

Whiskeytown Lake
Report provided by Mike Elster of Mike's Fishing Guide Service. I fished Whiskeytown Lake yesterday with TC Thorpe (in the picture) and the Kokanee bite remains excellent. We started fishing at the bridge in 40' to 50' depth range, using a UV Pink Apex with about a 20” leader behind a copper/silver sling blade and the new UV Nickel/Pink Cripplure about 15” behind a UV Fishscale pattern sling blade. We're trolling these combo's between 1.6 and 2 mph. We had our first limit (at the bridge) by 9am so we then trolled the curtain (same combo's) and quickly picked up a few more fish. We decided to try in front of the dam and fish deeper (85') in hopes of larger fish. The bigger fish are definitely out there but we're still picking up the 10” – 13” range. We finished our limits in front of the dam (10:15 am) going between 60' to 85'. We're marking fish almost everywhere on the lake and sharp S trolling patterns seem to entice them to bite.
Lake Almanor
Surface temp.@72 degrrees
Water clarity:Excellent: to 17 ft.
Air Quality: Improving.
Prevaling Afternoon west winds will increase smoke concentrations, but its really improving. Fishing pressure has been light during the week , and gets heaveier during the weekends. The bait fish, pond Smelt, are everywhere in Lake Almanor right now. Giant clouds of smelt are on the move as feeding fish push them all over the place.
Wheres the hot spot? Thats what all anglers want to know. My first pick would be Spar Bouy area north of Big Cove, thats where I will be fishing today and for the next week.
Prattville:
Lots of fish between Prattville and Rec area 2. these fish are holding in the thermocline, that being 28 and 38 ft down. Seps Silver Prsim 04 size dodgers and a threaded Crawler trolled at 25 ft. will bring these fish up.
East Shore:
Trolling Lake Cove is still productive, but the fish are on the small side 16 to 19 inches. Try any of the following lures, 1/4 oz. RGSS, Silver Humdingers or A gold Cripple lure.
The Dorado hole on the East shore has been giving up some fish to Crickets up off the bottom.
Spar Bouy:
Very good this past week. Crickets and mealworms,or double crickets off the bottom. This bite can go off early but, after 7:15 am when the sun hits the water it can really go off. Several bigger Browns from 4 to 7+ lbs have come out of this area the past week. White or yellow jigs when the sun hits the water and into the afternoon can produce some solid strikes too.
There's tons of bait fish moving in and out and there can be delays between bites, but if you stick it out it can really pay off. The only negative are all the Skiers and Wakeboard boats in the late morning and early afternoon and they always seem to get too close and baits need to be checked often because of all the wave action... wheres my rocket launcher?Big Springs
We fished Big Springs last Saturday morning and managed 1 fish in 1.5 hrs. not good.. Along with 10 other boats and we saw just 2 other nets go out. But Its still your best bet for the Salmon. Premium Anchovy tails with Pro-Cures Krill Scent, or Smelly Jellys Koknaee Feast 4 to 8 cranks off the bottom. Crawlers are good to have down there too.Canyon Dam:
Bait fishermen are set up along the Dams East side fishing right in front of Red Banks with cricket /giant mealworm combos off the bottom 3 to 6 cranks. Most guys are trolling from the dam to the Snag and back working in tight along the shoreline and later the deeper water.
Reports have been a mix of Browns and Rainbows, with a occasional Salmon.
Rec.2 Fish are packed in there right now, but so are the Smelt, so theres lots on food.. Bait fish off the bottom, or Jig.This weeks fishing tip: Always use some kind of scent. its masks human oders and helps fish find the bait in deeper, darker water. Got a Question? We got answers. www.almanorfishingadventures.com AKA , "Almanor King" VHF CHL. 69

Surface temp.@72 degrees. Water clarity:Excellent: to 17 ft. Air Quality: poor, Local fires are now out, Trinity fires smoke is the problem now.
Prevaling Afternoon west winds will increase smoke concentrations. Fishing pressure has been light.
Prattville:
Goose Islands east side of the flag still has fish in there feeding on smelt. A 6 lb. Brown came out of there yerserday by a guy trolling a naked, threaded crawler on top.
East Shore:
Lake Cove is still holding some biting fish all about 16 to 19 inches. However we managed to bag one Buck Rainbow over 4 lbs. @ 22.5 inches, Clean and bright. And a couple @ 2.5 lbs, and some coco pods. Needle Fish in Cop Car got most of the hits the past two days but that slowed, so we changed to Gold Cripple lures and 1/4 oz.RGSS and got three fish to the boat in the next 20 minutes.Troling these lures at 2.6 to 2.9 mph. in 55 ft. of water. and 5 ft. off the bottom with Pro-Cure Trophy Trout and Garlic scents blended worked best. A couple of boats were bait fishing in front of the last houses at Lake Coves south end. I saw a net go out several times so fish are still going for the bait off the bottom fishing too.
Spar Bouy
Theres fish moving into that small spring fed spot, so we know its flowing This is a good spot for Browns, and will be a good place to be fishing any time now.
Big Springs
Not much news comming out of Big Springs, but Its still your best bet for the Salmon and Browns. Premium Anchovy tails with Pro-Cures Krill Scent, or Smelly Jellys Koknaee Feast 4 to 8 cranks off the bottom. Crawlers are good to have down there too.
Canyon Dam:
Bait fishermen are set up along the Dams East side fishing right in front of Red Banks with cricket /giant mealworm combos off the bottom 3 to 6 cranks. Most guys are trolling from the dam to the Snag and back working in tight along the shoreline and later the deeper water. Del Valle
- Trolling for trout has slowed down. But limits are still possible bait fishing by the dam with Power Bait.
- The striper bite is picking up. Bait fishing the narrows and the dam are your best bet. Use anchovies and chicken livers for stripers.
- With the water warming, the catfish bite will soon be in full swing. They planted a 1,000 pounds of catchfsh this week and the south side of the lake is a good place to bag a limit of catfish using chicken livers for bait.
New Melones
- Kokanee limits are easy this week. Finding fish bigger than 10-13 inches is the hard part. Fish are being caught anywhere from 50'-110' OTW. UV pink and green hoochies and spinners behind sling blades or silver/green dodgers are doing the trick. Target the spillway, dam and main lake areas. Troll deeper for bigger fish and don't forget your corn. Best scent this week has been garlic, but kokanee special and krill have also produced fish.
- Bank fishing for trout is pretty much over. There are some catchable trout in the Angels creek and Murphy's creek. Some reports have some in of trout being caught at night under submersable lights by the spillway. Anchored in 20' of water using power bait and nightcrawlers.
- Bass fishing has been good. Target main points on the lake using senko's or brush hogs in green pumpkin and watermelon colors. Also, deep diving crank baits and spinner baits. There is a great top water bite at dawn and dusk using Zara spooks.

Check out the beautiful 14 Pound Brown Trout caught today at Noon by team Lunker Hunter. Read all about it in our Fishing Forum. It can be found under the Brown Trout Forum, under the title "
Oh the smell of sweet SUCCESS!!!! "
CONGRATULATIONS to Matt Wallace for catching and releasing this 14 Pound Female Brown. Good job on the release, she was full of eggs, and that definitely helps us all to ensure that the future of fishing can be as successful as today was for you.

-Lake Amador -
Hit Lake Amador today and there weren't all that many people there. We tried a couple of the regular techniques from the power mouse to rapala's. We had a couple strikes slow trollin but we were just enjoying some long needed sunshine and didn't pick up any fish. It was a C&R trip anyway, so no loss. We did talk to the Owners at the clubhouse cafe and they were kind enough to let us leave some lunkerhunter fliers by the register. All in all it was a nice day at Amador and we'll be going back soon when the bite is back on. The thing about that place is it doesn't stay down long. It could be red hot tomorrow. The bank guys seemed to be doing well on Power bait about 2-3 feet under a bobber. Go get em.

Though the highest of mountain lakes have given in into the freezing tempuratures, experienced anglers are plucking large browns and rainbows from the ones that have not froozen over yet.
-Although difficult to get to, Hell Hole and French Meadows are a sure thing for catching cold water winter browns. Just drag the usual AC plugs, Rapala's, Trophy Sticks, Rebels, etc. Close to shore 2.5-4mph.Hell hole has an amazing fishery with a wide variety of fish to catch. You can have a potuck of trout species in one trip to Hell Hole.
-Union Valley Reservoir is still slow with small amounts of Browns and a few Bows being caught. With enough patience you might be able to entise a finiky Mackinaw. This lake takes alot of work to figure out. While the fishing may be slow here sometimes it is a beautiful lake and worth the trip up there always.
-Stumpy Meadows will almost always bring a few small browns in the winter or you can always throw on some flashers or a dodger and catch a few rainbows.
-Sly Park is slow like always but has definately improved from years past. The Macs are a litte more active than they used to be with some anglers catching them from shore using Spinners, Cast Masters and Swimbaits. The boaters can troll the shore line or jig the bottom where fish may be stacked up. The rainbows are a little difficult to trick and the Browns are even harder to catch making it very rewarding to catch quality fish here.
-Sacramento River Delta and surrounding waterways have slowed a little after a hot Sturgeon bite a few weeks ago. Reports have ranged from banner days of Striper limits and A keeper sturgeon to a couple small stripers to nada for most. Recently Joey (aka STURIPER), a Lunker Hunter Forum Member, Made a trip out to his honey hole in the delta with his son and friend where they caught a nice keeper striper and 2 oversize sturgeon. I guess that's why he has the title Sturgeon Master.
- Lake Tahoe is a good choice for those who don't mind braving the elements. It is very winterlike up there right now but the fishing continues to be good. The big Mackinaws are lurking the shallows seeking an easy meal and the Browns and Bows are right there with them. Some reports have shown anglers catching Mackinaw limits and a few healthy rainbows to top it off.
-Lake Amador is a must every winter. You can catch large planter "cutbows" here almost every trip. It's not difficult to bag a lmit most of the time up to 5 pounds and sometimes end up with a hog tipping th scales well over 5 pounds. Hard fighting fish are fun to catch whether they came out of a truck or not.
11-25-07 - Silver Lake Fishing Report
I went solo to Silver Lake today. Toplined the shore line for 3 Browns to 3 pounds. I switched over to Flashers and a worm at about 10:00 and caught a whole bunch of little rainbows. It was very cold up there. Ice has been forming on the rocks around the lake.
11-23-07 - Slab Creek Reservoir Fishing Report
2 friends of mine headed up to Silver today only to get blown off the lake by 50 mph gusts so they went to Slab Creek res. They picked up 7 rainbows the biggest going 19 inches. They trolled flashers and a worm.
11-23-07 - Caples Lake Fishing Report
Talked to a fly fishing buddy of mine today who hit Caples this morning. He caught 11 fish total. 4 of which were browns. They biggest was 20 inches and about 3 pounds. The water was cold but the fish were very active. I'm not sure what flies worked but I'm sure you could catch some hogs toplinin there right now.
11-18-07 - Lake Tahoe Mackinaw Fishing Report
Some friends of mine tried Toplinin near Emerald bay for Nada while their traps were soakin. they picked the minnows up and headed for Homewood where they picked up a couple little guys runnin the wire down about 120 ft. they then headed a little more north and got into some better quality fish. They ended the day with limits for 3 guys the biggest was 7 pounds.
11-10-07- Delta Fishing Report
Trolled yozuri's and BBR's today for 11 Stripers to 6 pounds and 4 shakers. Zoom worm trailer behind the lure of coarse. We didn't do any bait soakin today but the trollin was descent.
10-20-07 - Delta Fishing Report
Delta Stripers are a little slow but with enough patience you can pick up some good fish. We managed 5 stripers to 8 pounds and a shaker sturgeon. All fish came from the power lines to Chain Island on fresh shsd and ghost shrimp. Not even a bump on pile worms today.
10-3-07 - Stumpy Meadows, Hell Hole Reservoir, French Meadows Weekend Fishing Report.
Headed up the hill for some fall Brownie Trollin. Toplined all 3 lakes. Rippin Rapalas seemed to do the trick. We caught many Browns but nothing real big. 3.5 pounds was the biggest fish measuring 23 inches. Stumpy was a little warm still but we managed 4 fish in about 2 hours then headed for Hell Hole. We did pretty good there on Saturday. Hit French Meadows for a couple hours sunday for a few descent browns to 2 pounds then made the long drive home. All fish were released.
9-15-07-Silver Lake and Caples Lake Fishing Report
My dad and I hit Silver Lake today for 5 browns to 3 pounds. Toplinin Rapalas. Then after the light was on the water we switched to Watermelon dodgers and picked up about 20 small rainbows. Checked out Caples which looked very good but we didn't fish it. We saw a boat landing a descent fish then as soon as they netted it the other guys rod went off and they picked up another. Looked Very tempting but we had to get home.
