Lake Tahoe is in the Sierra Nevada mountains located along the border between California and Nevada. The lake is known for it's clear blue water, and beautiful panorama of moutains that surrounds the lake on all sides. Lake tahoe is famous for it's large Brown Trout and large Mackinaw that can be caught most of the year.

Lake Tahoe is a good choice for those who don't mind braving the elements. It is very winterlike up there right now but the fishing continues to be good. The big Mackinaws are lurking the shallows seeking an easy meal and the Browns and Bows are right there with them. Some reports have shown anglers catching Mackinaw limits and a few healthy rainbows to top it off.

Lake Tahoe is a bit slow right now. In two recent trips up there We pulled in a few Macs to 8 pounds and managed to pick up one nice 5.5lb Brown.
My Dad caught the Brown on an f-18 Rapala at 3mph just north of Emerald Bay. We didn't pick up any macs on the topline. The ball was down to 70 feet with a dodger/minnow for the macs. Tight lines!!

Rainbow Trout action has slowed down quite a bit. The Mackinaw bite is steadily picking up with the majority of the fish being at or near the bottom. There are a few big mackinaw's being picked up in the sixty to ninety feet range. The best bet would be a big silver and blue flatfish fished in the sixty to ninety feet range. For the Mackinaws on the bottom you should be using a twelve inch silver or white dodger with a minnow. There are two ways to get it down that deep with the first method being a downrigger, and the second method being a six or eight ounce lead ball weight. For both methods drop them all the way to the bottom, and then reel up about a foot. You want to be right on the bottom, with the lure actually hitting the bottom now and again to attract them lunker Mackinaw.

Lake Tahoe is surrounded by several different casions. The casinos are Harveys, Harrahs, Bill's, MontBleu, Horizon, and Lakeside Inn. It's more than just fishing and casinos.
