This is a new feature on Lunker Hunter. We are trying to gather information on all of our members favorite fishing spots, lakes, rivers, and more. We will start with a little bit of information about a lot of lakes and list them below. As we gather more information about a particular area we will create it's own web page and the link will show up in blue below. Off of  Hwy 89 take Rd A-22 then on to Beckworurth Greenville Rd on to Indian Creek Rd. This will put you right at the dam

Baum Lake

Just 9.5 miles north of Burney Ca. on hwy 299 to Cassel Rd next to Crystal Lake Fish Hatchery, Has been designated as a wild trout lake ,Many a trophy Brown and Rain bow trout have been pulled out of this lake.
Day use only
No power boats
Fish Species : Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Eastern Brook Trout

 

Big Sage Reservoir
Hwy 299 to Crowder Flat Road about 20 mile north of Camby.
This body of water sits at 4,900 ' and has a warm water fishery.
Camping is primitive camp sites around the lake, No water
Boat ramp is paved and open to all boating

Blue Lake

Located just about 28 miles southeast of Alturas and at the 6,000' level.Tucked into the Modoc National Forest.
Take hwy 395 to Jess rd to Blue Lake rd 16 mile from hwy 395
There are 48 camp site for tent and rv's $ 7.00 per night
Boating no water skiiing or jet ski's
15mph on the water.

Bucks Lake
This lake holds Record Trout. The whole area is rich in wildlife and has alot of outdoor recreation options.
Elevation - 5,155 feet
Location - Plumas National Forest, West of Quincy.
Size - 1,827 acres

Fish species - Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout, Brook Trout, Lake Trout(mackinaw), Kokanee Salmon

Techniques - Most anglers slow troll with Flashers, dodgers, flies, spinners, spoons, etc. The brown trout and Lake trout can be more accurately targeted with small stick baits, swimbaits, dodgers, etc. and a faster presentation may help as well.

BUTT VALLEY RESERVOIR

This lake is connected to Lake Almanor by a tunnel. This is a PG&E lake on the feather river and the campground are ran by them.

Elevation - 4,150 feet
Location - Lassen National forest, 9 miles south of Chester on Hwy 89 in Plumas County.
Size - 3/4 miles wide and 5 miles long

Fish Species - Native and planted rainbow trout, Brown trout, Catfish

Techniques - Most anglers slow troll with flashers, dodgers, Rapala's, etc. for the rainbows. The Brown trout would most effectively be caught trolling small stick baits such as Rapala's with a faster presentation.

Camping - Cool Springs campground has 30 developed tent/RV sites
- Ponderosa Flat campground has 63 developed tent/RV sites
Ponderosa Flat Overflow has 20 sites for tents only

More facilities may be available 9 miles away in Chester.
Boating : The lake is open to all boating

Off of hwy 44 and rd 18 is Butte Lake

Castle Lake
West of the town of Mt Shasta, CA

Cave Lake

Cave Lake is off of hwy 395 to Highgrade Road .
Off of hwy 395 on the border of California and Oregon at 6,600 " in elevation in Modoc National Forest
Camping 6 tent/rv sites
Boating is limited to ( no Motors ) and launch by hand. Shallow draft boats are best
Excellent fishing for Brook Trout and Rainbow

 


Copco Lake
Copco Lake Is located east of Hornbrook and interstate 5 at a elevation of just over 2,600 feet

The upper Klamath River above the store are wild rainbow trout

Crater Lake
Off hwy 44 to rd 32N08 at 6,800' elevation

Crystal Lake

EAGLE LAKE

This is the second largest natural lake in California. The water is slightly alkaline and is rather shallow.

Elevation- 5,104 feet
Location- Lassen National Forest, North of Susanville
Size- 27,000 acres with over 100 miles shoreline

Eagle lake sits just off of Rd A-1 at an elevation of 5,104' in the Lassen National Forest. Off of hwy 36 take Rd A-1 for 16 miles, all good paved road.

Fish species - include the famous Eagle Lake trout that can be easily caught over 3 pounds. Deer and waterfowl hunting as well when in season.

Techniques - The most common way of catching these trout is slow trolling with your regular trout gear. Anglers use flashers, dodgers, spinners, flies, worms, small Rapala's, etc.

Indian Tom Lake

Take hwy 97 north out of Weed, Ca. just 2 mile north of Dorris Ca, right on Sheepy Creek Rd , lake on left.

No Camping
The alkaline waters support a unique cutthroat trout population

Iron Canyon Reservoir
This lake is located in Shasta county at 2,700' the lake has 15 miles of shore line. Large boats with a deep draft are not recommended due to shallow lake levels.
Directions hwy 299 just north of Montgomery Creek , take Big Bend rd , 24.5 miles to boat ramp from hwy 299

Hawkins landing
10 sites tent and rv $ 15.00 per night

LITTLE GRASS VALLEY RESERVOIR, SLY CREEK RESERVOIR, LOST CREEK RESERVOIR
Little Grass Valley Res. and Sly Creek Res. are great boating and fishing lakes. Lost Creek Res. is mostly surrounded by private property but can be great fishing. They are very scenic and have an abundance of wildlife. The Pacific Crest Trail is nearby. There are abandoned mining towns nearby.

Elevation - Little Grass Valley 5,040 feet. Sly Creek 3,560 feet
Location - Plumas National Forest, North of Bullards Bar, West of Quincy, near La Porte.
Size - Little Grass Valley 1,615 acres. Sly Creek 562 acres.

Fish Species - Rainbow trout, Brook trout, brown trout.

Techniques - Slow trolling with trout gear such as Flashers, Dodger, spinners, spoons, etc for rainbow trout and brook trout. There are huger browns in Little Grass valley that tend to go after the bigger, more natural looking baits such AC plugs, Rapala's, etc.

Camping - Little Grass Valley campground has 320 developed tent/RV sites.

Shasta Lake sits just north Of Redding Ca. On I-5, with it's 4 rivers that feed the lake. The Sacramento River, McCloud River, Squaw Creek Arm, and the Pit River Arm and she sits at 1,067 ' elevation.When the lake is full It has a shore line of over 365 miles of wooded shore line.
