AC Plug Skinny, Rainbow Trout Pattern
Shape and size- The slender shape and jointed style of this lure is outstanding. I have seen and used almost every kind of jointed minnow type lure on the market and this one is definately one of the better looking ones I've seen. I like the realistic rubber tail and overall shape and size. The hooks are high quality and the lure seems durable.
Paint and Finish- After close inspection I found the finish and paint to be excellent. I can tell that alot of time was spent perfecting the realistic pattern that these lures have. I was impressed in the colors used and the correct placement of colors on the body itself.
Put to the test- I ran the lure at Union Valley Reservoir in late February 2008. For those who have fished this lake you know how difficult catching fish this time of year can be there. I Ran it right on the bottom (within 2 ft.) in 100 ft. of water. I tried by itself and behind a medium sized dodger. I also toplined it in very shallow water near the north shoe of the lake. I managed to catch 4 mackinaw. 3 in the deep water and the biggest one toplining. None of the fish were very large but under these conditions just catching fish was an accomplishment. I was very happy with the action of the lure and it seemed to run the best at 2-2.5 mph.
What I would change- The only thing I would have different on this lure is the hook configuration. I had some hits that didn't stick that may have been hook ups if there were a hook further back on the lure. This can be fixed by simply adding a stinger or trailer hook to the lure with mono or braided fishing line and a good quality hook.
Over all I am happy with the performance of the AC skinny Rainbow trout pattern. It seems to have all the right characteristics for catching BIG fish.
Thank you AC plug's for giving me the chance to test your gear.
