GRAND SLAM BUCKTAIL PRODUCT REVIEW

by chartreuse moose on Tue Apr 29, 2008

I have been using the Grand Slam Bucktails for over one year; they have proven to be a deadly salmon lure. I have trolled them from 5' to 90' with great success.

They are designed to be trolled behind a dodger or flasher on a minimum leader of 16". The durable epoxy head has an iridescent mother of pearl finish, and will stand up to lots of abuse from big fish.

The slim needlefish body is made of fishair and crystal flash to match the sheer of the head. All of the patterns glow in the dark.

The best set up for me has been 00 gold &silver dodgers with 24" to 26" of leader. I use # 1 Gaakatsu hooks, on some of them I will put on Matzuo hooks size # 1 with 15lb leader. I also take another step and slide a red plastic bead that rests on the noise of the Bucktail , and then next goes on a small wiggle fin, that adds to the performance. I have also noticed that the heavier leader will add great action to the bucktail up to 30lb test

I have used this item on two lakes, Shasta Lake for Kings and Lake Oroville for Coho's; they did excellent with the Cohos to my surprise.

After careful inspection of the Bucktails I could not find any flaws on the 14 that I have used. I find the 4" black & herring work best for Kings on Shasta Lake. The 4" blue & herring and the straight Herring worked better on Lake Oroville

Grand Slam Bucktails can now be purchased in our online product catalog.
